The unit for temporary care of children and young persons with disabilities that earlier were known as Pikku-Koivu, opens its activities on Monday 4.5.2026. The new name of the renewed unit is Pikku-Karhu.
The wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Keravas (VAKE) unit for temporary care of children and young persons with disabilities Pikku-Koivu was temporary closed 20.12.2025 due to quality problems observed in the in-house control. The renewed unit opens 4.5.2025 with the name Pikku-Karhu.
The temporary closure ensured the safety of customers and staff, as well as the timeliness of methods, instructions and competence.
During the temporary closure new staff was recruited to the unit and the unit´s facilities have been renovated and refurbished. More assistive equipment and toys have been purchased to costumers, and the activities and support services have been developed and unified.
Opening of the unit means, that costumers once again can book periods at the unit. The periods are agred upon with the costumers. On 23.4.2026 was arranged a possibility to get acquainted with the renovated unit.
Pikku-Karhu is a unit for short-term care for persons with disabilities, that offer temporary care for children and young persons between 3–17 years. There are all together places for six costumers at the unit.
