The wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava are renewing its substance abuse and mental health services in March 2025. The goal with the renewal is to facilitate access to services, ensure a quick and competent care as well as combine the substance abuse and mental health services into one entity.

What will change:

  • New mental health and substance abuse stations: Three mental health and substance abuse stations are set up in connection to the health stations, which are located in Tikkurila, Martinlaakso and Kerava.
  • The stations provide low threshold services for adult persons, who have substance abuse and mental health problems and for their close ones. The clients can go by themselves to the stations without an appointment on weekdays 8–13.
  • At the station the client’s situation is surveyed, the need of care and support is assessed and short care and support periods are provided. The services include among others discussion help, crisis help, guidance in controlling substance abuse and counselling in matters regarding mental health. When necessary, the client is guided to follow-up care.
  • The substance abuse clinics emergency services will end with the new service to avoid overlapping services.
  • There will be no changes in the substance abuse unit’s activities. The clients can in the future apply to the abuse services through the mental and substance abuse stations.
  • Therapy and rehabilitation units: The earlier separate mental health and substance abuse services (the earlier mental health and substance abuse open services at basic level) are combined into two therapy and rehabilitations units. These units provide individual and group care for clients based on the treatment plan, who have mental health and/or substance abuse problems and for their close ones.
  • Drug treatment services: Myyrmäkis health and social counselling service point Vinkkari is moving a short distance to the current Substitution therapy unit. At the same time the opening hours are extended. Vinkkaris services are intended for intravenous drug users.
