Services for children, youth and families

Occupational therapy aims to improve the child's functional ability and performance in age-appropriate everyday activities. The reason for referral to occupational therapy is the child's difficulty in participating in age-appropriate activities in everyday life. Difficulties may appear, for example, in eating, dressing or playing, and in the background may appear poor coordination or other motor difficulties, learning difficulties, lack of concentration, challenges in fine motor skills or proble…ms in play skills, interaction and relationships with friends.
During guidance and assessment visits, the occupational therapist interviews the parents and the child and evaluates the child's skills and capabilities by observing the child in various functional situations and using standardized tests. If necessary, the occupational therapist cooperates with early childhood education or school staff.
Based on the occupational therapy assessment, a follow-up plan is made together with the parents, which can include exercises and guidance for everyday life. Based on the assessment, individual or group rehabilitation can be recommended. The goals and methods of rehabilitation are chosen according to individual needs.
In children's occupational therapy, functional capacity assessments and rehabilitation plans are made for children and young people with developmental disabilities. In addition, the need for assistive devices is assessed, and guidance is given to the client and his close circle.

Prerequisites

The service is intended for children, young people and their parents of the wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava.

The occupational therapy service for children and young people is free of charge. You can be referred to the service by a social or healthcare professional or by a special early childhood education teacher´s referral.

You can get guidance from the children's occupational therapy telephone service on 09 419 15100. The occupational therapy telephone service is open from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mon-Thurs. You can leave a callback request Mon-Fri between 8am and 3pm.
You can cancel the booked appointment via the Maisa customer portal or by contacting your occupational therapist. Please book a new appointment by contacting your occupational therapist or calling the occupational therapy telephone service.
