Where can I get help for my situation?

Violence is a social problem that adversely affects the entire community in which it occurs. Help is available for those who have experienced, witnessed or perpetrated violence. You should talk about experiences of violence as soon as possible.

The need for support and assistance is always individual. When you meet a social or healthcare professional, speak openly if there is violence in your close relationships. Together, you can consider how to increase your safety or resolve your situation.

It is also worth talking about experiences of violence that occurred in the past if they remain unprocessed and continue to negatively affect your life.

You can also independently seek out services that may be helpful for you.

Support for families with children

You can receive support suitable for your family’s situation, for example, from a Family Counselling Centre. Services are available through counselling and guidance for families with children on weekdays from 9:00 to 12:00, tel. +358 9 4191 5200.

Support for young people

The Youth Psychosocial Support Team within Family Counselling Services provides support for young people aged 13–21 and their parents in matters related to upbringing, life management, social relationships, mental well-being, and substance use.

The Finnish Red Cross Youth Shelter (SPR) Vantaa-Kerava, tel. +358 9 871 4043 / +358 50 339 5413 (text messages, WhatsApp), provides assistance around the clock, every day of the year. The shelter can offer a safe place to stay overnight if needed and provides support through discussion. Support is also available to those close to the young person, for example in matters related to parenting.
