Peijas Hospital, Acute Care Ward 1

AKOS 1 is a ward at Peijas Hospital that belongs to the Vantaa and Kerava wellbeing services county's hospital services. It is a 20-bed inpatient ward for patients in need of acute care.

Patients come to the ward from the emergency services area around the clock. Common reasons include sudden infection, a decline in general condition, confusion and further treatment of pulmonary and cardiac symptoms. The ward also rehabilitates fracture and pain-management patients as well as patients with mobi…lity impairment who need assessment and rehabilitation.

The stays at the ward are short. The physiotherapist plays a key role in preparing the patient for discharge. The preparations include assessing the patient's ability to function and any needs for assistive equipment and making a referral for home rehabilitation. We cooperate with home rehabilitation and assistive equipment services.

Each patient is assigned a primary nurse who handles all the patient's affairs: looks after them while at work, deals with other staff groups on the patient's behalf or with the patient, and communicates with the patient's relatives when necessary. In all treatment-related matters, the primary nurse is the first point of contact.

The aim of the treatment and rehabilitation is to maintain and promote your functional ability. The emphasis is on your personal goals, wellbeing and holistic rehabilitation approaches that allow you to participate in society. You are involved in setting your own objectives as well as planning the care and rehabilitation period together with the hospital's multidisciplinary team and your loved ones. The achievement of the objectives is assessed periodically together with the team.
