The wellbeing services county has established a new unit focusing on the mental wellbeing of children and young people. The unit began operation on 2 January 2024, providing treatment for mental health disorders, substance abuse and addiction issues for individuals aged 6 to 21. The services for children below school age will also be centralised through organisational changes but will remain unchanged from the customers' perspective. Parents of young people will also be offered more counselling services.
The unit’s reformed services include child guidance and family counselling services offered to young people and their parents. Family counselling services are available to individuals aged 0–17 and their parents. If the young person chooses not to use the service, parents can also seek child guidance and family counselling services without the young person. Child guidance and family counselling services are aimed to support the positive development of children and young people. The service may include discussions on such topics as parenting challenges, family dynamics or conflicts in relationships.
The psychosocial support services for young people also include counselling for young adults between 18 and 21, either individually or with their parents or other people close to them, to promote mental wellbeing and sobriety. The service is open to all young people who need support in issues related to their current life situation, identity, family relations or substance abuse problems.
The unit for children and young people’s mental wellbeing supports the functional capacity of children and young people through a multidisciplinary approach. In practice, this means that professionals working in rehabilitation, student welfare or social welfare services can, with the parent’s permission, invite a professional from the mental wellbeing team to support the young person. The collaboration begins with a network meeting. Please reach out to the service numbers above to learn more.
Information concerning the customer using the services provided by the unit for the mental wellbeing of children and young people is recorded in the healthcare customer register. The recorded information can be accessed through the MyKanta service.
The addresses and locations of service points remain the same in Vantaa and Kerava. Services are also available flexibly as Teams meetings.
